Long fingers

Do you think long fingers affect how good you can become technically?

Satriani, Vai, and Gilbert all have the longest fingers and they rule.
Hope someone will tell me this is not true because my fingers are not that long actually.

Its not true.

Infact, there are several gifted guitar players out there missing fingers, and they do just fine.

Django Reignhart (excuse the bad spelling) only had two fingers on his fretting hand didn't he?

We have a guy named Tim who takes lessons where I work, and is missing his right arm from the elbow. He doesn't pick. He has a string damper, like Jennifer Batten had, and just hammers everything out. Awesome player man...mostly blues stuff. He hammers really hard, and uses somewhat lighter strings, but he bends notes and does the whole legato thing really well.

Didn't know that about Chris Poland... trip

hehehe , Im with Bar Hook here...Yngwies hands are one of the biggest pare of hands ive ever seen , bloody massive....
have you seen the fingers he uses ? he never uses his pinkie , and very often only uses his 1st and 3rd finger for licks , he can do this cause they so big , even those tricky harmonic minor riffs with the most awkward fingering alive lol....

Don't you mean, FATTEST man alive?

Yeah, me hands are quite big. I don't think it really makes much of a difference. I know Dime hs like, sausage fingers, but I dunno if that would be an obstacle.

My hands are extremely tiny. I know I can play fast and accurately... it's just a matter of picking out which fingerings work best for you.

I also have extremely tiny hands and short fingers. I can play guitar just fine. The only things I ever have trouble with is those certain chords that require extreme finger reach. But I always find ways around them.

Another advantage to my long fingers is the fact that I use slim, fast necks. That's another factor.

I dont see that is really makes any difference. People adapt their own styles which suit heir fingers etc.

Its not how big they are, its what you do with them that counts
