My Jam with Paul Gilbert ;)

So I was lucky enough to Jam with Paul Gilbert, during his recent masterclass in Melbourne Australia.. Those of you that know, I also jammed with Steve Vai last year.., so yes i'm super extra lucky

As you will see in the video, the Jam was more just lick for lick back and forth. Kinda like communicating via guitar.. Lets just say I sucked at it :P But I put in a good effort.. considering I had been sitting during the class for 2 hours and near then end I needed to pee bad..

Paul was a super nice guy, very friendly and personable. He really went the extra mile with fans, letting everyone who attended to have a photo and a signing. There were 100's of people, so he really cares about the fans..

I scored his new album before the release, which is bluestasticly great, so dont expect a racerx style shred album..

ok enough chat.. on to the video

Well I'd been waiting for this vid and it's not really what I expected, from PG that is. Your guitar sounded like it was begging for a shred fest. I've never been crazy about him playing the blues, I might have to just go on ahead of him if it were me, into a dirty screaming blues solo, all that back and forth twiddling gets me nervous without a drum track or sonething. Congrats though, I officially hate your guts now anyway.

Like someone else mentioned, I too was expecting a shred fest, but I kinda like this style since it seems different from the norm. You went toe to toe with another great and went the distance like Rocky vs. Apollo. Congrats. So who's next? Satch, Petrucci, Malmsteen?

I really enjoyed PGs class in Sydney. As mentioned, a very personable guy. I actually enjoyed PGs Masterclass more than Steve Vai's to be honest.q

Re: My Jam with Paul Gilbert ;)

I can understand why you enjoyed PG's class over Vai's.. Pg's class had real world, technique that you could instantly take away, remember and use that very night at home..

He explained a technique for like15 mins, and then played a song with the band, using the explained technique during the song.. Making it easy to take in.

Vai's calss on the other hand was more about the spiritual side of things, how to handle nerves, how to get your own sound, and how to not be affected by the world around you. ie.. caring what others might say for giving it a go.

I enjoyed both classes and obviously got alot out of it..

Come April... I might be surfing with the Alien

Might have to design my own tour t shirt with my 3 performance dates and images of me playing with the greats :P
