Something else about the new CD that bugs me:

There isn't a single "WOW!" moment on the whole thing from anyone in the band.

It was a bummer when I realized that the other day.

Re: New Van Halen = \m/

Saw VH in Jacksonville last night and they were incredible. Eddie is still a monster. Still reminds me of why I wanted to learn how to play since I started listening to them 27 or so years ago. The dude is almost 60 and is still rocking. I've seen them around 10 or so times over the years, and Ed sounded as great as ever. The last 2 tours I thought were pretty mediocre, but this one it really seems they've got it dialed in, and it looks like they're having a blast.

I'm just glad Dave's back! While he never was a great vocalist--he was always one of the best frontmen/showmen in the business. I enjoyed the Sammy years, but it was just "different."
Dave always had that singular mojo.

There were two big wow moments for me--"Stay Frosty" and "Blood and Fire" both impressed the hell out of me.

Not "cool song" moments, I mean something like an awesome drum or guitar lick that just smacks you all upside your head.

The whole album is filled with those. Remember that Ed isn't a solo player, he's got the whole rhythm thing down to a science.

I was completely impressed by the new album and the band sounds like the old school VH.

Both songs have those. In particular, both songs have their moments:

In "Blood and Fire" around 2:40, Ed's legato sounds the best it's sounded since 1984.

In "Stay Frosty," the solo has that loose, off-kilter feel of early VH. And, as always, Ed lands on his feet.
