I'm working on a tune with a friend. He's not as into noodle as I am. But he'll let me play what ever I want. I've come up with 2 different ideas, I like em both, but for different reasons. One is a little more "look at me", but it still fits, even though is brings back memories of Stryper.
Give me your thoughts. They are 1:42 long, the part in question is from :22-:48. Once i make a decision, I'll go back and polish it up.
Wow - that's through a POD? That sounds great. I've been wanting to save up for a tube amp and I want to record, but maybe I should just get a POD - then I could do both for far less money.
Anyway, I like them both...the first is more melodic and I dig that, but the second is more aggressive and I also like that. Either would work!
#2 is the best.
The other one is too 'lollipop' for me. Also, on the first one you play akward notes over some of the changes.....second on is much stronger.
A bit to much for an intro solo, don't you think? I still like version 2 better. It has a rocknroll feel to it that IMO serves the song better. The new one has the same ellements but you pushed the "noodling" factor a little over the top, for an intro solo.
I seem to be in the minority here, but I preferred the first one. It has more melody and will interest the listener more. Which is what good intros should do.
#2 seems more like a guitar break that could be used between a verse and a chorus, not as an introduction. But that's just what I think.
The bassline reminded me of a sped up version of living on a prayer. Perhaps you should try a talk box? Woah-woah-woah oh-oh woah-woah-woah oh-oh...
Like #2....... but like others have mentioned you're cumming all over yourself before 30 sec. have passed. JMHO! But both have their good points though.
I don't hear stryper as much as I hear some old Eddie Money tricks stuck in the middle there with melody stuck behind the vocals. That worked great for him though.
The last one? Sounds like your trying to force it to be something. I'd say let it sit for a few and then come back to it fresh. Just a thought, but sometimes less is more. It allows the true character of the song to pop.
It's funny how hard putting 20secs of something that 'fits' is. Just trying to put togather a rocking, yet just hinting at 'shred-lite' intro to an Eddie Money'ish song is. As a noodler, I fall into the trap of jackrabbit playing. I almost need to pour goopy sticky honey all over my guitar to force me to sit back a little. Is anyone interested in the track without me playing on it?
I've just listened tot 4 times and the only thing I can comment about is the chords in the begining. In previous versions there was just this ticking sound then the bass came in and then eveything else. I think it was a better buildup if you know what I mean. The solo is very good, fitting as an intro and leaving room for more.
It's not that we don't like no.1 version. sure it is melodic and nicely harmonized but it is way out of context in this song. Most of all it reminded me of steve vai's liberty.
Darin.... I like what you've done! But I gotta agree with 'Big' here! I think you shaved it just a tad too much. But much more mass appeal with the new direction. I sure miss your little speed flurry in there somewhere though.
You've got a good ear for what's needed, 'Big's' right, you've got the skill.
This version would be a pretty good keeper if you're getting tired of putting up new tracks though. Just needs a little polish in the mix maybe....
Which is kinda weird, cause there are so many good, yet different opinions. I think what I;m looking for is sort of a Warrent/Bon Jovi/AC-DC feel. It's not coming easy for me. I think the last one, #6 is as close as it's going to get. I will stick with #6, and noddle it up, just a tad on the/a hanging note(s). It's a holiday weekend. I have nothing better to do than finally get this thing dialed in once and for all. Then I'll post the whole song.
What to ya think of that ryth tone on the intro before the lead kicks in? I can't believe that's coming out of my POD 2.0
Re-recorded on the JSX. I ran dry, and added delay with Cubase. I need to redo it with the XTLive in the loop so I can TAP delay it. I can't seem to get it just right with the plugin. I put 2 mics on the cab, a SM57 and a SM58 on separate speakers. I still need to do a bit of tweaking with the EQ on the mixer and the JSX. I am liking the tone of a tube amp though. The POD is EASY to play, nice and gainy and compressed. But it's not as thick as the JSX. Here's my preliminary JSX recording for ya to check out.
Nice playing! very melodic.Reminds me of lynchmob.Good tone too.
