Oriental Melody

I can't remember where I read, but I think someone said Satch is in drop D tuning for this track. That true? If not what is the correct tuning? I'm dying to learn this song! Thx

I've just stuck it in the CD player and I think from the sound of it it may well be in Drop D. It's very remisicent of Nuno's "Midnight Express" which does have the bass string dropped a whole tone.

If it's mentioned here it may well be in a thread about either Joe's SBM tour, or possibly his "Snake" guitar, which is the guitar he tunes in Drop D when on tour.

This thread from a while back indicates that yes, oriental melody is in Drop D.

Not only that, but Joe himself says it's in drop-D in his most recent Guitar World column.

More confirmation: he uses Snake for that tune, which is typically his 'drop-d' guitar.

...and, as if there was still any question, a quick check against the track will show you the drone note is clearly a "d"
