His website's news section, that he writes, says he is doing a bunch of Marshall booth guitar show demos. Is he with Marshall now? What was wrong with Laney I wonder? I never would figure he'd switch to Marshall, but who knows whats up?
Wow! That's a turn. I mean, with all due nicety to Marshall fans, but that company has gone tits up recently in my opinion. Even a year ago or so, Paul himself answered an email from me telling me that the Laney was so important to achieving his signature tone.
Another reason he made the change to Marshall is because when he's doing clinics, he can rarely find a Laney GH head and cab in stock for him to use (when he's not using his own). Whereas 99% of the time there's always a Marshall around of some sort that suits his needs.
No one, really. Ive tried most of the amps in the Marshall lineup, and I can honestly say I never liked a single one except this one tube combo which was 2800 dollars...and even that one only had moderately good tone. I'll take my pod xt coupled with my atomic reactor all-tube amp (total = $1000) any day!
He actually was having some amp and tone issues during rehearsals for G3 '07and it spilled over into the few run of gigs. After that first leg was done.. he was very vocal about wanting to explore Marshall and drop the Laneys. I believe he's going to be doing a performance at the Marshall display during Namm next week.
i must be in the minority on this site, because i still dig marshall. loved the dsl50 when i first played through it and fell in love again with the vintage modern when i played that (and bought one on the spot). it may not be for everyone, but that amp is just about everything i could ask for tonally.
I never like marshall amps from day 1. I find them sounding too loose and bit trebly. And theres never enought gain to fill in those loose holes if you get what i m talking about. Nor they were ever clean enought. They sorta stuck in the middle of clean and gain. I tried the vintage modern, didnt like it. JVM was probably the best amp they came out with. But its stilll not there compare to other modern amp makers.
I like the sound of the laney lot better then marshall.
So wait a minute, what is the benefit than of being endorsed by Marshall, you get discounts off the amps they SELL you? That to me seems like a joke! Do they pay the endorsees in anyway at all? What about guitars, like Vai, Satch, and Gilbert? I thought they get paid by Ibanez and depending on there contract they get a certain amount of their signature models free per year.
Petrucci was saying Mesa is the same way, they dont give away amps. Different companies handle endorsements differently. Maybe these players are actually using Marshall because they really do like the amps.
There's no way in heck they didn't pay anything to Slash/Gilbert & Co for appearing in the ad. See, you could say "we don't pay people to use our amps" and that would be true, because they don't pay for that. But I can guarantee you they paid dearly for that ad and for PG's picture on their site.
when it comes to endorsements, its not about free amps or guitars. You advertise their stuff and they advertise you. And thats still a gain in fame and so on.
...and you charge them for appearing in their ads. It's not like Slash needs advertisement.
