Re: Paul Gilbert playing 'Get Out of My Yard'

Anyone know what effect Paulie is using at the beginning of "Get Out of My Yard" to get that weird time warping effect thing! I dont know how to describe it! In the new Guitar One video it shows him go down to a stompbox and twist some knobbies, so we know its in stompbox form. Anyone know which one?

Ok great I'm pretty sure now that its a DD6. Really cool effect that I never knew could do that! Anyone know any else of Paul's pedals?

I thought it was some sort of analog loop pedal, so that when he increases the speed knob, it also increases the pitch... could be a DD6, but as I've never used it, I don't know.

increasing the speed will always increase pitch unless youve got the specific effect/software to do otherwise.

Oh, I was under the impression that digital effects didn't do this. Maybe I should listen in music tech more, hmm?

Actually you can!

DD-6 has that warp kind of sound when you process it real-time.
However,it can only be done in a way someone had it in hands and did that crazy stuff by fiddling around with it WHILE PG played.

please excuse my way of saying something sometimes,my attempt of explaining things was rather clumsy.
I meant like;there is no stand-alone preset on dd-6 that can do that sick intro in GOOMY song, for my ear...that is only possible if you take dd-6 while someone plays and fiddle the pots WHILE person plays.
On that way those things are possible. At least I think PG did it in that way.
I have DD-6 and personally I haven't found stand-alone preset that can do that kind of thing, but when I fiddle it with it WHILE i play I can get a lot of crazy and sick stuff...kinda PG thing as well...
I hope it's more clearer now.

Re: Paul Gilbert playing 'Get Out of My Yard'

I remembered a good situation that illustrates what I wanted to say.
If you saw Satriani on last G3 Live In Tokyo DVD you'll see what he does in a song "Searching" when he gets down on his knees and tampers the controls of some crazy device while he plays.Effect is not the same, but the "principle" is.

I dont see the difference to this and what Pablo does in the video, He records the arpegio into the memory then it plays over and he increases the speed that it is being repeated. I cant see how you could have the same effect while he is playing.

Re: Paul Gilbert playing 'Get Out of My Yard'

I think you are both correct. I think Satch basically did the same on the G3 DVD, but using a different type of modulator.
