Paul Gilbert technique - Question for the experts...

I really cant figure out this thing when I watch the MR BIG Live in San Francisco video.
When Paul did his solo, there's a part (i think u guys know which one even before i tell u guys ) when he did someting like screaming on the pickups, or maybe biting the string, and it creates a weird sound...someting like a distortion sound with bending the string or the whammy bar... :donnie:
It sounded like a whammy bar thing to me BUT Paul's guitar has no wang bar...
Anybody knows how to do it?? :help:

I think he is actually screaming very loud in the pickups.
But i also think you need tons of volume and power to get that sound. I suppose if you try to do it with your guitar connected to a small studio amp, you won't get almost anything....

Yup he's using the guitar like a big kazoo to quote the man himself.

I saw him do Eruption and do the screaming bit for the whammy bits. Very impressive.

There's also the story that PG, Vai, Satch, Reb Beach and Alex Scolnick were doing an Ibanez thing in the States. PG figured that you couldn't hear anyone so he 'posed' lefthanded cause he figured it would look good on photographs, so when the time came to do his solo he had to do the screaming bit except everyone thought he was playing lefthanded AND sweeping with his teeth!!!

The guy's the coolest.

Normal Dimarzio ToneZone Humbuckers...amazing huh? It sure helps if you've got a distortion or overdrive pedal with the gain on full too!

As long as you turn your amp up loud enough (and scream loud enough), any pickup will do that.

I find electronic things work really well. *I have this stuffed cow with a voice box in it, it goes 'moo' when you squeeze it. *Comes right through the amp if you hold it up to the pickups, at any volume.

Not the most impressive of tricks, but it is pretty funny.

It's great having a cell phone playing a tune into the pickups in high volume
