Re: Prince can shred!
By far not his best solo IMO, sloppy, seems like he's not really focused. Certainly not THEE best solo ever, lol. When he's on, it brings me way more chills. If he hadn't made it so hard to find his material online I would post a link now that crushes the OP link.
That said, I like it better than the others posted here. PG is one of my all time favs but he can't convey the blues properly, IMO, at least I can't get into it. Same with Vinnie. At least Prince conveyed it well and probably gave 90% of that audience goose bumps without even trying.
This song was penned by the Brits in a style created here in the US. The Brits have been highly instrumental in the shaping of what it was to become, but for the most part stayed true to it's roots (some straight up copying). Blues is the cry of the black man in a white man's world. Surely everyone is familiar with oppression and can respect that. There is only so much theory that belongs in this style. It may be boring to some but to others it's a spiritual and emotional thing, and really has nothing to do with the guitar. When you start trying to get all Gilbert in a blues song it becomes self indulgent and far removed from it's rooted intentions, almost meaningless.
