A short solo in E... I think

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDRYpjXRcUQ

Hey. How y'all doing? I'm fine. Well, not so much fine, as learning musical theory. I've recently gotten into a Harmony & Theory DVD from Lick Library (the beginner one) and though I've gotten some nice solos and ideas that were taught to me note for note, I'm somewhat confused about this one.

I figure it's in E, and I sort of get the idea of the beginning bits and pieces, but then he just flies off, and my brain along with him.

Is he using something other than the E major scale? Could anyone provide some helpful tips?

What I saw was all E major. He was jamming the E Major scale over a open E string, then switched to some licks using the E Pentatonic Major scale.

I'm doing the same thing and going back to dust off theory and harmonization.

I saw the same thing, using the open G and a pedal tone and using G major notes. The last part is a couple of G major pentatonic boxes from the looks of it.

Nice solo actually I thought, very tasteful.

Well then, I suppose I best go work it out. It's quite tricky.
