It would have been any Chris Isaak tunes.... Never been a fan of his music, but recently got a good listen to some of his material. He's actually a pretty good writer/singer! Bet that's not the kind of music you had in mind though....
^^^^ I can appreciate that too.... well, all but the Hip Hop/Rap kinda tunes. It's one form of music I just don't understand. Just something about all the sampling they seem to do that turns me off. Now if they actually hired musicians to perform the musical arrangements I might be more receptive. I can certainly appreciate their vocals and lyrical writing, but that's just my take....
I do believe they hire drummers and guitar players at times. There are alot of those songs where you can here a guitar. Unless it comes from a keyboard! And Bass.
I hate that song yet am compelled to listen to it when it comes on...
I hate everything about that group and their music...especially that song. Terrible guitar playing, terrible vocals, terrible lyrics, crappy video. I can't explain it. I still hate the song but for some reason when it comes on the radio or television I'm like a zombie drawn to brains....
When I first heard my first bluegrass tune, maybe 20 years ago, I though it was just another style of country music schlock. I heard Alison Krauss and Union Station on PBS about 5 years ago and I was impressed by their musicianship and songwriting. I've heard a bunch more bluegrass artists since then. Most can flat out "shred" on their traditional instruments.
Check out The Tony Rice Unit (probably from 15 -20 years ago - check out the baby face and 1980s glasses on Jerry Douglas who is about 50 now).
Anything by AC/DC. I used to hate them but now I really dig their stuff.
Same goes for Prince and most R&B.
And IMO rap gets put down too much because of the sampling and the lack of melodic lyrics. I used to HATE IT back when I was in high school, but I see it now as a real art form. I can actually relate a lot to some of the things rap artists rap about. But like anything, there's good and bad acts.
And some, like Kanye, have GREAT music but I don't really like their "rap".
Talking Heads when they first came out. Just didn't do it for me at all, but I ended up buying the back catalogue a couple of years back. What was I thinking (drinking?) at the time?
Prince. I remember when I was young I just didn't get it. Now for me, Purple Rain is in my top 5 fave albums. Just a genius record. Also country music, Brad Paisley is a beast of a guitar player.
