Re: Steve signed By Sony?

What's there to get.

"Sony Music Entertainment and Legacy Recordings have signed virtuoso guitarist/composer/pro- ducer Steve Vai to a new multi-album agreement which includes plans to issue two fresh Vai sets in 2015 beginning with the release of Stillness In Motion"

>Sony Music signed Vai for multiple albums.

But he has his own record label, that has released all his work and previous DVD's, what I don't get is why he chose to sign with Sony for this one...?

Re: Steve signed By Sony?

That's good news imo. Sony has more means than Steve by himself. Who doesn't want to be signed to a major label?

I've watched countless videos/articles of and about him, where he claims his own label gives him the freedom he needs and so on. I thought a major label was against his principles.

EDIT: Hm, seems my previous assumption was not correct. Looking at his discography he's been using a bunch of different labels to release his solo records (Epic, Relativity, Sony, Akashic) aside from his own label Favoured Nations. I don't think I'm familiar enough with that side of the music industry to understand the reasoning for this.

Re: Steve signed By Sony?

oh no the DVD is not gonna be epic at all, it seems countlessly overdubbed as the previous one. I've seen him 2 times live and he didn't sound/play like he plays/sounds on a dvd at all. (except for the astoria which seems more raw).

Re: Steve signed By Sony?

Isn't this the same show that was live on AXS TV? I guess he took their footage and overdubbed a few mistakes. He and Dave said that this show was not their best and that the previous night's show was better. I will probably pick it up anyway.
