Re: Steve Vai Guitar Battle

well, It's actually Steve Vai vs. Karate Kid! (YEAH) After that scene they go kung-fu on each other!
No, but it's from the movie "Crossroads" (though not the one with Britney Spears in it), And Steve Actually plays both the guitars and Karate Kid just tries to make it look like he plays. Look closer then you'll see that he doesnt really play, he just fools around. But well, I guess he can't do Karate either when he's off the screen.
By the way, this video is kind of well known 'round here as far as i know. I bet at least 95% has seen it.

Britney Spears = acting *shivers*

In other words, Steve outplayed even himself.

That's cool, I didn't know Steve played Machio's guitar too, I thought it was another player. You are positive about that?

Re: Steve Vai Guitar Battle

Yeah Steve played both guitars, he told that on Guitar World interview once. Well actually Steve didn't play everything, Ry Cooder played slide guitar, I am not 100% sure.

yep, Ry Cooder played slide on that one. In an interview, Steve said Ry tore him a new ******* 'cause he can't seems to do what Ry wants him to do, pretty funny.

Re: Steve Vai Guitar Battle

Steve played his parts, and ARRANGED macchio's solo.

Ry Cooder recorded the slide guitar parts, since he's better at slide than Steve.

Re: Steve Vai Guitar Battle

The song "Eugene's Trick Bag" was transcribed in Guitar World or Guitar School? years ago. The piece is influenced by Paganini's Caprice #5.

Fun to play - Anyway, Vai wrote the piece and is credited on the transcription.

Re: Steve Vai Guitar Battle

Just remembered, there is a similar-type cool duel on the G3 "Live in Denver" DVD between Steve and Tony MacAlpine during the song "I'm the hell outta here."
