Re: tremelo picking

Useful advise there.

General ideas would be to stick to the metronome and build up a couple of bpm for everyday of practise. Also try slowing your tremelo picking down if you get stuck at a certain bpm. That way you are building up speed and confidence, and then you can attempt the higher bpm again. Keep doing this back and forward method and before you know it 200bpm wont seem so far away.

Practice and pretend you're like Kirk Hammett.. hey it worked for me! But to be smart and constant.. use a metronome

Re: tremelo picking

keep your pick really light off the strings, if you round the edge a little, i find its easier (like going from a jazz III to a jazz II)

Re: tremelo picking

I've been trying Petucci's rock disiplin video and i can just about get up to 154bpm~ doing alternate picking chromatics e.g:

-----------------------------------67899876-----------------------------
------------------------------6789----------9876------------------------
----------------567898766789--------------------9876-------------------
-----------5678---------------------------------------98765678----------
------5678-----------------------------------------------------8765-----
-5678---------------------------------------------------------------8765

Or whatever. I can just about make 154bpm and after that it gets messy or my fingers don't sycronize which is strange considering the amount of Sweep appegios i do

Any ideas on this? When i've been playing these i find i'm tensing up. I accent the first note of each 4notes but i seem to stop accenting them when i speed up.

I use Jazz III picks aswell, same as Petrucci

what speed do you start at? i do that same excercise and start at 100bpm, then work my way up, moving in increments of 8-10 bpm. in terms of accenting, i only do that for every other string once i really get moving, instead of every new string

Re: tremelo picking

What is tremolo picking, how do you do both together?

Maybe I know how but just don't know what it's called.

Yeah i start at 100bpm and move up 8bpm a time. I find it hard to get up to and past 154. Anything before that seems quite easy but 154 seems to be my threshold i guess.

I dunno if there's any tips to do it better. Mabye picking closer to the bridge, but i find if i do that it makes tons of unwanted noise because i'm not muting.
