Re: Trying to start a Band

No secrets really... Have a clear idea of what you want to do & look for people into that sound. For doing originals have some recordings of some of your original ideas is really helpful. Running ads on CL has become the standard these days... But you should also go out to your local music venues & check out other bands and talk to them! Most local musician communities are fairly interwoven - they k.ow each other, have heard (or at least heard of) each other, etc. So you may get some referrals. Or if you're good enough, you may be able to seduce someone away from their current project. Never know.

Just be patient. Sometimes finding the right members takes time. Use that time to keep writing and practicing.

Like I said - no secrets here man. Just do it.

Re: Trying to start a Band

I'm having a similar problem in that recently we lost our singer (basically just quit on us after playing together for many years) - he also played guitar - and it is hard to find someone with the right attitude...especially singers...there are tons of guitar players out there but trying to find a singer who isn't a whack job is truly a challenge...

Re: Trying to start a Band

Sincerely I wish you the best of luck. I was in a band a couple of years ago that saw 7 people come and go over the course of a year. One guy retired due to a chronic elbow injury and after that it was a revolving door. You just have to find the right people that all get along, all want the same goals and have the same direction. Its tougher than keeping a marriage together.

I found a new already-established band about 6 months ago and we've been gigging since April and all get along great. Its just a matter of finding the right fit.

I turn 39 tomorrow... My bassist is 50... We play Maiden and Priest in our 80's hair covers show, along with Whitesnake, Van Halen, David Lee Roth (my excuse to bust out some Vai hehe...), Ozzy, Crue, Steel Panther, etc... In fact, my 25 year old rhythm guitarist is a very rare young blood who's really into this stuff. Your players are out there. Just takes time. Hang in there! Keep your chops up though - if you wanna convince others to rock classic metal with you, you gotta be ready to grip it & rip it! Not covers for the timid...

Convincing others is what ive been trying! Lol, all the musicains i know are either into indie rock or punk, and the classifieds are basically people to far out of my area, out of my age range or just play different music. Seems like there is no one into the same style where i live
