Re: Vai's new JEM "XAVIA"

Xavia makes me think of Steve's "xavian" scale, a microtonal scale he uses on some songs from Sex and Religion. So that's probably a very limited use axe. There are two switches that make me think of Roland GK-3 or similar pickup but the one in the neck position looks like something else unless it's been modded into the shape of a standard single coil.

That's a sustainer pickup in the neck position and the extra switches control it. Same arrangement as Flo etc.

Re: Vai's new JEM "XAVIA"

Vai writing names on guitars has become a gimmick. If I remember correctly, that started when Ibanez sent him the first batch of white JEMs, and the only difference between them were the pickups. To tell them apart, he wrote "names" on them, which were just designations of pickups. Now he does it just to do it. He has a DY with something scrawled on it. (MOON?)

Re: Vai's new JEM "XAVIA"

Hey, nice pic, thanks for sharing!

My not so new 7VWH has become my main guitar. It's time to order a white Evo 2 with golden polepieces for the bridge position.

Wasn't EVO retired from the road? Perhaps Mr. Vai likes to tour with x amount of guitars. ^ ^
