Viberato question

Hello,

I'm just an average player trying to get better and for the longest time I've been wondering about some of the viberato i hear from varies songs and wondering how it was done to create a such different sound.

One of the more obvious example is Megadeth - Lucretia, during the solo at 2:50, marty friedman does this viberato on the 15th fret of 3rd string, it sounds so wicked, maybe he used something like a flanger pedal just for that one note?

Re: Viberato question

Hello

No, there’s no effect doing that, just his fingers.
Friedman does mainly two different types of vibrato in that solo.
The first is a very fast wriggling of the string; I do this a lot.
It gives a little whammy effect; Zack Wyld does this too.
The other is when Marty starts step low, out of key.
It sounds like a Wah the way he does it.
He does the bend evenly so you hear the note come up into key and the wriggles it.
It’s a cool technique.

Re: Viberato question

Marty Friedman has a very refined technique. This video is pretty cool, he shows the way he thinks:

Re: Viberato question

Sebastian, I think the second type is also the one used by Yngwie and Dimebag Darrell, which is to move the whole wrist instead of just the fretting finger. Wicked!
