Mmmmm, no i don't like it. These lists are pointless, you don't mesaure how good a guitarist is, each and one of them are unique in their own way and it's impossible to say that one is better than the other.

Correction from the list: Satriani was never in Rainbow, he was temporarily in Deep Purple for a tour.

I agree, but I guess they have to take a lot into consideration when making these lists, i.e. actual playing, sales, influence, inspirations, what else they've done, etc...

Some of those players might not have the best technique or appeal to some, but they might have really started something or influenced something.

Jimi Hendrix probably has the worst technique on that list, but he's #1.

I think kirk hammet is good, hes newer stuff is roten, from load on, but I mean come on master of the puppets rocked, and NONE of u can say it sucked, infact it sold the most records EVER for metal, I would know I have the bock on 500 metal albums. And what about and justice for all, KICK ASS! Yeah Tony macalpine does rock, but he hasnt influenced many people. Its mostly on who they influenced and how good they played, and Kirk is higher in the list at #35 ( I think) I thought it was good.

You cannot be serious, a list like this without Robert Johnson, surely one of the best ever? Or how about Charlie Christian and T-bone Walker?
Without them no BB or Albert King, no Buddy Guy, no Eric, Jimi, Page, Beck, etc.

Santana higher than Peter Green?? oh dear... Carlos based his entire career on Peter's songs (Albatros, Supernatural)

Garcia? good if you're spaced out, but sorry, he's no Albert King.

Alvin lee? high octane blues rock, but where's B.B.??

John squire, Dave davies? How about Vernon Reid or The Edge, both easily top20.

Frusciante, Mick Ronson, Leslie West ? drop either and make some room for Wes Montgomery, John Scofield and Joe Pass.

me likes:

Mike McCready - Pearl Jam (just because I saw him play last week and he rocked, even played behind his head ;)
Chris DeGarmo - Queensryche, but he should be up there with Petrucci somewhere.
Alex Skolnick - Testament, should be nearer to Marty etc.

People are so quick to knock Hendrix but he probably influenced more people than the rest of that list put together, including the majority of people on that list.Thats why i'm guessing he's number 1!
People need to realise theres more to life than notes per second and sweep picking

I actually despise all these shred-happy wackos myself. Too many, too little musicality. True, Hendrix did influence a lot of guitarists, but I think that a lot of his solos are too cliche. And he's the most famous guitarist simply because he's...well...dead. I'd bet a nut that he wouldn't be as popular as he is if he was still alive.

Where the f*** is Fredrik Thordendal and Rusty Cooley? Say what you want about his sense of melody, Rusty's technique alone earns him a spot atleast in the top 100, in my opinion. Thordendal's wonderful contrasts between melody and dissonance in his soloing, along with his technique should make him on that list as well.

This kind of lists are so useless....:(

it's all subjective... someone will say that Page is better then Hendrix, others will totally disagree...

I find it stupid that people actually waste time by making such lists...

you can't make a 100 greatest guitarist... period.
