I saw Rush at their 09/2001 show in Mountain View, CA. It totally rocked, they did a three hour set w/ no opener, and it totally rocked (did I say that). A great setlist that mixed oldies and new tunes, a funny stage show with odd surprises, and they played better than I've ever heard them.

Runners up:
- Satch at the Fillmore during his DVD filming
- latest G3 wins for "best performance" and "best sound"

EDIT: stoopid typose

most memorable are Metallica at Sanitarium 2003 tour, because...well, it's Metallica; and Slayer, because I moshed like nowhere else. yeah, I came out with bruises, but I set it as a goal to beat the Slayer show on the 11th when I go to see Dimmu Borgir

In terms of best sound and overall spirit of the show, Opeth take it

I used to go to a lot of shows back in the 80s when in my teens and early 20s. I've seen almost every big (popular) hair band you can name. (Although I never saw Van Halen with Dave--WWWAAAHHH!!!!)

The best show I'd have to say I saw was David Lee Roth with Tesla on the Eat 'Em and Smile Tour in 1986. We expected Autograph to open (remember "Turn Up The Radio"?), but they got canceled at the last minute. So we went to the show having no idea who Tesla was. They absolutely rocked. We were amazed. This was their Mechanical Resonance tour. I'm not even sure the album was out yet. Then Dave came out with Mr. Vai and Mr. Sheehan and we were floored! I will never forget Vai and Sheehan literally chasing each other around the stage. It had a riser so they'd run up, down and around. They were grabbing each other's hair and playing at the same time. It was wild. Roth disappeared for a while and showed up on a small platform behind the sound booth. He yells out, "Stevie, can you hear me?" Vai responds on the guitar and probably with a talk-box, "Yes, Dave. I can hear you." Roth: "Stevie, can you say 'Worcester rocks because the girls here are SOOOOO fine?'" And he played it! Just great!

Maiden in 99 on the "Ed Hunter" tour. It wqas my first time seeing the biys, and they played all the hits. I had 12th row seats at the Greek in L.A.

Close second is Queensryche on their "Building Empires" tour in 91. They did the entire "Operation Mindcrime", which I totally wasn't expecting. Blew me away.

It's a tie:

Labbatt's Hometown Bash
Three Days Grace, American Hi-Fi, Simple Plan, Korn, Nickelback
Comments: All were amazing, except American Hi-Fi, they were ok, but not great. The rest all put on great shows and sounded great.

MTV2 Campus Invasion Tour
Pepper Sands, The Weekend, Billy Talent, I Mother Earth
Comments: All were great, but Billy Talent and I Mother Earth are bands that everyone should see live.

Godsmack w/ Mushroomhead and Alexisonfire
Comments: All were amazing, even though the crowd wasn't very receptive to Alexisonfire (great great band).

Scratching Post w/ Radio Holiday and Blue.Skies.At.War
Comments: Small venue, great bands, lots of fun.

Bands I wish I could have seen this year, but had to miss:
-I Mother Earth w/ Reason Disappears and The Salads (heard it was a great show)
-A Perfect Circle (I don't think I need to explain this one )

Most exciting concert ever - David Lee Roth - Eat 'em and smile tour.

Best musical experience King Crimson, Bill Bruford's Earthworks, Chick Corea's Electric Band, Elliot Fisk.

Runners up - Rush, Roger Waters, Frank Zappa, Yes (ABWH and 90125 lineup).

Hmm, tough one...

The Rolling Stones on the Bridges to Babylon tour in Mannheim, Rock am Ring '02 (Ozzy, Tool, BLS, Santana, Muse, SOAD, Neil Young, etc...), Chick Corea Elektrik band in Athens this summer, BB King in Montreal are the best ones i can think of...

I'm heading to G3 this friday and King Crimson with Living Colour on tuesday, so we'll see...

That was gonna be my resonse too. Following that would probably be Deprivation/Malamor/Cathedral/Samael/Strapping Young Lad back in September 26th. My second time SYL, and all it took for them to be established as my favorite band to see live. All the other bands rocked too, especially Deprivation and Cathedral.
