who needs a pinky to play a smoking solo...

apparently not Michael Schenker....

I never post links to u-tube vids but this was just too good not to share - Michael Schenker doing some absolutely deadly soloing here and I think his pinky touched the finger board maybe twice in 2 1/2 minutes...such great feel...he is such a great soloist...enjoy!

Reb Beach rarely, if ever, used his pinky for soloing, and his solos are even more smoking.

Yeah Schenker was terrible.
Up and down pentatonic boxes, nobody need 4 fingers to play them plus no melody at all.
The last(new) Winger album is awesome, loved all songs, very heavy and great melodies.

Was thinking the same about Reb, and that old cutting loose is very cool.

wow, tough crowd - I thought it was cool...the guy is probably closing in on 60 and is practically a living legend - and it's just him and Jamie H jammin some impromptu improv over power chords...I thought it was cool...but then I've always been a big Michael Schenker fan...I remember being obsessed with the 'Obsession' album by UFO - I used to listen to his solos on that album over and over and wore out the cassette before finally getting it on CD many years later...

on the pinky note - I was watching some Gary Moore video and he hardly ever used his pinky either - and of course Gary Moore was a fantastic soloist, god rest his soul...

And yes Reb totally smokes too...

Re: who needs a pinky to play a smoking solo...

Mike is great.

What he was given to jam to...SUCKED THE LOUDEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just how long can you riff on one damn chord...oh and then I think I will throw a change of two more chords, then I will sleep again on one chord, etc. etc.

Give the guy something good to jam to.

YIKES

Re: who needs a pinky to play a smoking solo...

O.K. I just listened to Reb Beach.

Great.

These guys are not both apples.

One is an orange.

Get it?

In other words they don't play the same or even the same genre.

I mean, well maybe I speak without really knowing what the hell I am talking about.

Let me explain.

I am a MS fan from the UFO days...only!

I have never heard anything else after the first five or so albums...that is it.

I have never heard RB with anyone. I have heard of him and thought I may have recently seen him with a Whitesnake concert on Paladia, but other than that, not really.

Having said that...I can clearly see they come from different camps.

Regarding MS...yes the solo was kinda lame.

I can remember when I played in my 20s...much different than now in my 50s.

Sorry that is life.

I still try, but I my life is completely different.

In my 20s all I did was play guitar.

Now I have to find time for it.

That is life...oh well.

Oh, and just for fun...the reality of it is, that I had NO money for good gear in my twenties and now I have the best gear available...again, life really sucks!
