aiguitars eBay seller

Hey all, just some queries for you all.

I bought a carbon fibre look pickguard from aiguitars off eBay since he didn't have a listing for it at the time.

I received it, looks great, but there is a problem. The guard doesn't completely cover the bass side of the pickup cavity. You can just make out a couple of mm of the cavity at the edge of the guard.

I emailed him about this a few weeks back, and he sent me a PDF template for the gaurd to compare it against. I printed it out, and noted that the guard he made me is in fact not quite to spec against the template. It isn't quite cut correctly, that's why the cavity is showing.

I let him know, and all I got back from him was a one liner, "We don't know what that means". I told him that the pickguard he cut me does not match the template exactly, and that's why the cavity is showing. I asked him to send me a replacement one, and over the last couple of weeks he has not responded at all. I have sent a couple of follow ups, and no response. I've warned him that I will take further action if I must.

I'm really disappointed as I have bought from him before, and had good experience. I guess that's because I actually got a guard that was cut correctly, and didn't have to worry about any after sales service.

I feel bad as I have recommended him to others as well. I was planning on spending more money with him in the future on a fretboard and inlays, but if this is what I can expect I definitely won't be spending any more money!

I hope he will fix this problem up, but if he won't I may have to take this further, publish some of these issues on my site, etc. That might get his attention.

Anyone else have problems with Al from aiguitars?

I've never had an issue with him, and I buy many fretboards and inlay kits from him. I know he might be away at the moment, as I've been trying to contact him for something else. Keep trying--he's good stuff!

Also, if you need his phone number--shoot me a PM and I'll get it to you...

So you think he's away at the moment? I might hold off a bit longer.

I have been a bit pissed off as it should not be that hard to understand my explaining that the guard he sent me not matching his template, which he provided me.

I cannot dispute the transaction in PayPal now either which is extremely annoying. I don't appreciate people who wont stand by their products if there is a problem.

Calling him would be tricky getting the logistics of timezones right, not to mention expensive. I'm broke as right now, and a call for something that cost $46 in total is probably overkill.

He finally emailed my overnight, but still just doesnt seem to understand my problem is that the guard does not match his own template! He wants me to trace the guard he cut, and then mark where I want modifications. I don't need this! I just need a guard that is correctly cut to his template!

I can't afford right now to send back what is essentially useless to anyone, and used now with shielding tape, etc. Its a waste to spend money on sending it back.

I should be able to just get a correctly made part sent to me, without all these issues.

Re: aiguitars eBay seller

Even though I like Al, maybe you should ask for a refund--then order the guard from Nate Perle. You may even want to ask Chris (Mai-Guitar) if he's making pickguards yet.

Sorry to hear of the situation, Stephen!
