Re: Anybody Watching / Buying anything from the Les Paul Auction?
I have to admit I was obsessed with the auction to the point I was selling gear to build up a war chest for bidding. I didn't post about it here, but maybe I ought to have . . . the commentary over at MLP forums didn't really go past "wow, cool gee-tars!"
I was fascinated and delighted by the catalog . . . I saw many things that made me think, "the average Joe (or average Mikey, ha ha) is going to be able to score something cool."
I was right.
There were early bargains, a few Gibson Les Paul Customs went for about what you would pay for a new one today, off the wall of some big box store (lots 21-24).
Amps were a bargain overall; many common guitars went for many times their usual price on the used market but common amps went for 1.5-2 times used market value. I guess if you can't hang it on the wall and have it look pretty, rich collectors aren't interested. I dunno.
