Best custom guitar shops?

Hey, Folks.

I'm trying to find a good custom shop that can build me a good custom Jem.

Would love to hear your recommendations.

Thanks,

Matt

Re: Best custom guitar shops?

Do you want a complete build from one shop? or maybe a neck from shop A and a specific swirl from shop B?

If you want just an alder body and a jemtypeneck with a vine or pyramids, you can find them on the bay. Also, ET guitars and Area51 are shops that have good reviews.

Well,

I'm just looking at getting a custom Jem built...

Maple neck with vine inlay, blue color jem basswood body.

Hoping to spend a $1000-$1500.

Re: Best custom guitar shops?

If you have an RG you're willing to donate/convert, Michael over at LiveWire LLC can put a new fingerboard with inlay on the neck and convert the body to a JEM style (i.e. monkey grip & lion's claw trem route) and paint it however you like, including killer swirling if that's your taste. He does outstanding work and had reasonable rates. Doing it that would would save you a lot of cash buying a raw new body ($250-ish depending on wood choice & vendor) and especially in a custom neck from scratch ($500-1000 depending on vendor, choice of woods and quality).

Cheers!

+1
I see a lot of Livewire's work because I live near their shop.
I also have three guitars they've worked on for me.
The work is top notch!
It's the way to go!

Check out my DNA custom thread.

Yeah I spent quite a bit on my LiveWire but thats because I had Michael do TONS of work on it.

I would recommend him as well. Delivers on time, good communication, and is an overall nice guy!

Re: Best custom guitar shops?

wow, found his site. Those swirls are errily familiar to those from outofthisworld swirls. I like them though.

Deft have to research this route. I don't have a RG body but I'm sure I can buy one off of ebay very reasonably and then have him convert it into a jem.

Thanks!

Re: Best custom guitar shops?

He had two JEM bodies primed and ready to swirl as soon as he gets an order.
I saw them on a drying rack last weekend when I was over there checking out my JEM PMC body!
