This forum was very helpful to find indications of fake ibanez. Thanks to all for that.

Re: IS THIS A FAKE JEM/UV??... here (& only here) is where to ask & discuss

Hi guys I am thinking about buying an Ibanez 77fp, I found the one on the pictures attached on Facebook nearby me and it seems pretty beat up, the price is around 1.5K USD I know I can get a better price but I would like to get your opinion on the authenticity of the guitar because the guitar does not have papers or hard case and the serial number on the headstock seems kind of fishy to me.

Could you guys please help me?

Thank you for your answers, The seller tells me that the guitar is made in 1989, is there any issue with the number on the backplate being different to the one in the headstock?

That's not an 80's floral. It's a 90's floral. Pickup mounting points and Lo-pro Edge trem are the giveaway. This would fit with the headstock serial number indicating it's a 1998 build (February?). The serial number does look a bit odd, but I've not seen any late 90's florals first hand. Rich would be the man for a definitive answer on that.

Re: IS THIS A FAKE JEM/UV??... here (& only here) is where to ask & discuss

Looking back through the photos, I suspect that the trem stud nearest the volume pot has started to shift forward toward the pickup cavity. Not sure if this is the angle that the photo is taken or not though. If you physically check it out make sure the trem is not contacting the wood or scratchplate when pulling up or down. It's not a difficult repair for a luthier but something to be mindful of. It's pretty common for 'well loved' Jem's of this era.

Yes, it is a 1998 and looks as legit as my 1998.
