Ladys & Gentleman I present to you the Starry Nite Swirl.
This is the newest swirl that has been done here at Sims Custom Shop. I did this one last night. It was done in predominantly blue, with some accents in green, black, and white. I dipped the guitar and when it came out I was very pleased.....and amazed. It was unlike any swirl I had ever done, and any swirl I had ever seen. It doesn't look like the Ibanez swirls done by Darren, it doesn't look like the Herc Fede swirls with the zig-zag patterns, and it doesn't look like a mess of mud like many others. It is VERY unique. There is virtually no runs or sags in the color, and hardly no water spots.....very hard to do when your dipping in water.
Many swirls have been named by their artist, and they have their name for different reasons. You have the Diablo & Abalone swirls by Herc and the Passion & Warfare, DNA, GMC, etc by Darren.....this is going to be the Starry Nite swirl. Reason being, when this swirl came out of the water the 1st thing that came to my mind, the 1st thing it reminded me of was the Vincent Van Gogh painting Starry Night. It just has that look to it....very dark, very blue, and has white spots in it like little stars.......I have taken a bunch of pictures of it with close ups, far aways, and different angles so that you can get a good idea of how good it looks in real life, and to try and capture the detail thats in this swirl. The guitar has NOT been clear coated yet so thats why its not that shiny.....what you see is EXACTLY how it came out of the water. Once I clear coat it will be real shiny, and slick enough to count the hairs on your head.
Some people will love it I'm sure, others may hate it. I love it, its very rich in color, and unlike anything I've seen before.
The neck that is on it will not be the neck that stays on it, its just there for picture taking purposes. I want a 550 wizard neck with a maple fret board, swirl the headstock to match, and put a green Ibanez decal on. Also, when I get my new neck I'm going to send it to somebody and have Stars inlaid down the fretboard and maybe even have some green or blue LED's in it.
The guitar was originally a RG 760, but I have cut it out to my own shape that I designed. Not only is it cut different but it has been significantly reshaped. From the thinner, sharper and sculpted upper and lower horns to the arch top and sculpted out lower cutaway for easier access to the upper frets. There are sooo many things that have been shaped and carved different on this guitar I can't even begin to explain them. The guitar is VERY light, and comfortable, and weighs about 4.5-5 lbs. We call this model our PM 8184. You either hate it, or love it. I love it. The body shape and sculpting is art to me, just like the swirl is art. I plan on keeping this one, but I will let it go if somebody makes me an offer I can't refuse.
Hope you guys like it. I'd like to here your thoughts on it, good or bad.
Thanks for looking!!
