Question 8" speakers?

I've been playing through a POD X3 live ... usually with headphones or this tiny solidstate amp that sounds lousy. I've got a Crate PowerBlock, so was going to play the POD through that, and into 2 small cabinets for true stereo. I play at low volumes - it's a must since I have 2 kids that are generally asleep when I get a chance to plug in.

Anyone have recommendations on 8" speakers? I've just acquired for really cheap 2 small fender amps that are completely empty and will serve as nice little closed back 8" speaker cabinets.

Thanks!

I've heard nice things about jensen mod 8, it's supposed to sound bigger than it is and good for distortion. I own weber sig 8 ceramic and it's also nice for fender-ish amps.

Re: 8" speakers?

Celestion Super 8 is a very nice speaker. Tone Tubby also do an 8" speaker if you fancy paying a fortune! Weber and Jensen also do nice 8" speakers. Celestion for a British rock sound, the others for a U.S. sound. All except the Tone Tubby are dirt cheap!

I put an Eminence Alpha-8A in my Peavey Vyper 15. Huge difference and sounds great.

Re: 8" speakers?

Definitely don't think I want to step up to the Tone Tubby. Since I'm going through what is essentially a Power Amp in that Crate and using the modeling of the POD I may also go more the full range speaker route. Definitely trying to keep the cost in the $40 per speaker range.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!
