ADA MP-1

I wanted to get impressions on older ADA MP-1's, especially those who have heard them with the "3 tube" mod. I am downsizing my rig for portability (and because its too loud) and am thinking of using the ADA with a Marshall 20/20. Im not running a stereo rig, or I would use the Mesa, and I like the added push with the deep switch. Plus I can use the extra cash after selling the Soldano for other goodies.

Go to www.adadepot.com and check out the user sound clips under "Cool stuff"

I have a bunch of ADA stuff and it is top notch gear! I'm selling an MP-1 with the "Stock Gain Mod".

Be careful of the Marshall 20/20s, they have a lot of problems with overheating. Make sure you have plenty of airflow around it.

The 2 tube MP-1s have plenty of gain, IMHO. Voodoo Amps also has some MP-1 mods. Last time I looked he had one of his for sale on his site.

I've gone "back to the rack" too, I like being able to get the same tone at lower volumes, but I hate programming! I like pedals, "stomp on, stomp off", why does that sound so familiar?! I hate having to set up presets with the same preamp sound but different effects programs, ARRGGGHHH. But, it's the price that must be paid and I shall persevere.

Advantage of the ADA MP1very good high gain sound.
Disadvantage: when you switch patches who have different biasing (od1 and od2) you can hear a big pop and the sound swells like if you just put on a valve amp.

Yup - you gotta put a load on both sides of the marshall when its switched on. You dont have to on the mesa, as long as you turn the presence/volume controls all the way down when a channel is not in use.

-better shred than dead-ANDY

Well the easy solution to that is use the SS channel. No pops or sweels there. The SS Clean channel sounds VERY good.
