Alnico A5 magnet to match Evo bridge

Hey all,

Speccing out a custom guitar and having trouble deciding which pickups to put in it. I love the Evo in the bridge position for rhythms and leads, especially with heavier/darker sounding woods as it's a trebley pickup. I am not that big of a fan of the Evo in the neck position - granted it's great on full volume, but I like to roll off the volume a lot for melody sections, and the clean tones of the A5 Bareknuckle simply blows the Evo out of the water. The clean-up of the Bareknuckle Nailbomb in the neck position is marvellous.

Does anyone know if 1. An Evo & A5 Nailbomb match up would work; or 2. of an Alnico pickup hot enough/with enough output to put in the neck position and match an Evo in the bridge position. Obviously, I don't want the volume dropping off when I change pickup selection.

Cheers

Craig

From memory, it's been said that the PAF Pro with a ceramic magnet enters Evolution territory, like a baby Evo. Maybe a stock PAF Pro, with it's alnico 5 magnet, in the neck will suited. May just need to raise a bit to match.

Humm. I find that the Evo DP158 neck matches well with the Evo DP159 bridge. The DP158 has a great clean tone even though it's a ceramic pickup. But if you are set on Alnico 5 magnets try the DP 213 PAF Joe. It's sweet.

Maybe you should put some bridge version of A5 in neck position. Like Gravity Storm or similar.

The PAF Pro or PAF Joe would have been my first thought here too, but if you like the Nailbomb in the neck overall, then it's worth a shot - you have to have some pretty major volume mismatches before you get to the point where you can't make it work, and I like to have somewhat different sounding neck and bridge pickups.

I'd go with a stock PAF Pro, A5 magnet and it's pretty much the same output as the Evo neck model.

paf pro, paf joe or breed neck.
I had the pro and the joe paired with an EVO2 in a RG550: I prefered the joe but this one is more rock n' roll than "hard rock/heavy metal" oriented as the EVO2 is.
The pro lacked of balls to my ears.
I eventually found a match with the EVO neck.
Bt try the breed neck, it might fit your expectations
