Amp Noise, Help :(

Just got a Peavey Ultra Plus tube head. Hooked it all up, and it worked fine and dandy for a few hours.

Then I went back to play it, and it started making the most annoying noises that make it pretty much unplayable.

It doesn't matter what the settings are on, it always sounds like this:

Forgive the awful recording quality, it's just a $5 PC mic. Notice the near the end when I play the individual chord then pause, you can hear the overwhelming crackling. There have been no feedback issues, no screeching.

I'm overall happy with the sound and everything, but this issue is seriously impeding my enjoyment of the amp.

Any ideas what the problem is, and how to fix it? The tubes I'm told are brand new. This is my first tube amp, so the whole thing is alien to me. It makes no noise when in standby, and the noise is also made when the amp is fully turned on and the guitar (all of the ones I've used) has the volume off completely and nothing is happening.

Sometimes you can even hear what sounds like an electrical current, but this isn't common.

Help

Re: Amp Noise, Help :(

When you got ANY problem with a tube amp. . .first thing you do is replace the preamp tubes.

That fixes 70% or more of tube amp issues. It sounds like a microphonic preamp tube to me.

Aaaaaaand those are?

Are they the big obvious ones sticking up vertically?

Or are they the smaller ones tucked away in the corner?

Smaller ones = preamp tubes, bigger = poweramp tubes
