The Boss Micro-BR

Does anyone else have one of these? I bought one a year ago used for about $100. I know money doesn't buy happiness but It sure got me a handful of misery. I was simply looking for a virtual practice companion. my needs were rhythm/ drum machine capabilities and looping. Boss promised me so much more with this product; a tuner, digital effects, a 4 track recorder with 8 virtual tracks each and the ability to slow down mp3's to practice with.

What I got was a finicky little box that drove me nuts. The interface and controls of this device are severely lacking. Just to move through the pages of effects you can be pressing buttons in 3 different locations. A simple up down left right with center button for enter could have made this the best micro recorder ever but for the last 6 months it was nothing to me but a glorified tuner. I finally found some posts on youtbue that may have changed this. A guy who posts as gravelroadmedia has put up some really useful instructional videos to get the best use out of this device. If you have one of these, check it out.

I have one of these. Although I don't like onboard effect (they are there just if you really don't have anything better) I'm happy with recording features. Interface is horrible and it got me quite a while to understand how to do simple mixing and stuff, but I guess it's fine for that price (I payed ~120$ for mine)

I have had mine for a few years, and I am lending it to my brother at the moment.

The menus are fiddly, but it is worth persevering as they are good bits of kit once you get used to them.

Yeah just messing with one of these myself. Should have been more intuitive.

I have one and I love it--great for laying down quick ideas, and if you get the MP3 jam tracks from BOSS, you'll have a GREAT practice tool as well.

Cheers,

Race

Re: The Boss Micro-BR

Funny seeing this thread bumped up today. I played a show on the weekend and noticed my Micro BR in my guitar case, so I fired it on the floor, and just hit REC via the built in mic. I got most of the night on it, filled the SD card, but didn't sound half bad except for clipping the input too often...

Re: The Boss Micro-BR

I use this little gizmo exclusively to practice becaue it works better than firing up my 50w Marshall head. Yeah, its complicated as hell to figure out but I just lay down some basic drum tracks and play away at different speeds. It will make your ears bleed and my wife never hears it. It has about 80 different tones but I only use about 8-9 of them. The boss Jam tracks are really cool too.

I'm sure there are plenty of other units that are easier to use but I like mine and recommend it for anyone needing a decent bedroom practice tool.

Re: The Boss Micro-BR

I got one of these yesterday as a Christmas present for myself and after watching the videos mentioned by the op I found it relatively easy to use . I'll use it for songwriting and to present my ideas to my band and I must say it is a really great tool for this.
I only tested it briefly before packing it away again but to find a beat and to set the speed went fine, then I laid down the rhythm track before adding a second track and it sounded quite good.

I really look forward to unwrapping this puppy in three weeks time and to explore it's possibilities further

Re: The Boss Micro-BR

Hey guys!
I recorded a song today on the Micro BR and I've been trying to export it to my computer as a .mp3 file, but I can't for the life of me understand how to do this.
Any help would be highly appreciated!

Cheers

Re: The Boss Micro-BR

I figured out that - in order to get my recording as a stereo mp3 file - I needed to bounce the tracks together, and I've done so (in pairs - track 1 and 2 bounced together and track 3 and 4 together). But how do I get those two files merged together?

Are you having trouble making the MP3's or actually getting them onto the pc?

Re: The Boss Micro-BR

I had problems making mp3 files. Managed the other day after stumbling across the forum on songcrafters.org
