Boss RV5 Reverb

I'm thinking of adding a reverb pedal to my line up as currently I use the built in reverb on my Peavey 112 bandit (93 model) and when reverb is on theres a slight hiss that is added to the sound so to combat this i'm thinking of buying this pedal. Does anyone have any good feed back (no pun) on this pedal or others? I'm looking at this one mainly because my other pedals are Boss pedals and I use a Boss pedal board so it would fit perfectly.

any info would be great, cheers

Rich

Re: Boss RV5 Reverb

I'm getting a Marshall Reflector (RF1) this weekend. It's said to be very good, so I'm looking forward to playing it. I've got no experience with the RV5 from Boss, but you might want to try them both out if available. Also, the Reflector seems to be the same size as the Boss boxes so you should be good regarding the pedal board.

Re: Boss RV5 Reverb

The only Boss reverb i've used was the '63 Fender Reverb, and it was pretty good.

I still don't think it quite beats my "huge version" EHX Holy Grail for natural sounds though.

It depends on if you want your reverb to sound thin and behind you, or washed and in the mix. Boss' COSM has come a long way though, be sure to try some out first. I'm picky about my reverb you might be too.

Re: Boss RV5 Reverb

I had a RV-5 for a while, it sounded pretty bad IMO.
I could never dial in a natural sounding tone, it always sounded very harsh.

I'd try the Marshall before spending so much money on a sub par pedal.
And if you're willing to spend look into a used Malekko Spring Chicken or it's little cousin the Chicklet. They both sound very nice, and kick the RV5's butt any day of the week.

Re: Boss RV5 Reverb

Best Reverb you will ever get:
Damage Control Glass Nexus (plus adds some other Mods too)

The Boss IMHO is very bad. The Marshall is kinda OK, but still leaves room for improvement.
