Cool Re: cabinets?

Strangely enough, my current setup has a Marshall 1936 2-12" cabinet powered by a Mesa F50 combo with the mesa combo speaker unplugged.

I've had everything from Vox Piggybacks and Ampegs with the head built-in (you flip the head upside down into the cab) to Marshall and HiWatt full stacks to old Fender Bassman/Showman setups to small Dumbles and Carrs, and I'm happier with this wierd combo setup than I've been in years of trying out different combinations of amp/cabs.

MORAL OF STORY: Don't hesitate to try mixing and matching different manufacturers stuff to find that "Holy Grail" sound you're looking for!

The only rule is: There Are No Rules.

Re: cabinets?

Just a little suggestion for peeps on a budget. I was looking at buying a 2x12 and saw the mesas are like 500 bills :-(. So i would reccommend an avatar 2x12 or a carvin legacy 2x12. They both have the Celstion V30s, which are the same speakers taht are in the mesa.

Re: cabinets?

in europe (where i am) i can find the Recto Cab for 789e and the orange 2X12 for 611e, there is a considerable price difference as you may see,

but the orange its 16ohms and can handle only 60w, the mark has 8ohms speaker output (or 2 outputs for 4ohms) and its 85w

the recto has 8ohms and can hundle up to 140w, i thing is a better much

but does it worth the price difference?

Re: cabinets?

Personally from an aesthetic point of view...........i like my stuff to match. An orange cab (literally orange) and a mesa head doesn't exactly when my beauty contest. I think you should go with the mesa.........great cab........great soung.........worth the dough.

Re: cabinets?

Have you tried a Genz Benz G-flex 2x12? They're versatile with great clean and thunderous distortion sounds from the front ported cabinet. You'll swear it's a 4x12.

Re: cabinets?

Well, Ibanez has released new cabs to go with the new Thermion head. They're equipped with Vintage 30s as far as I know.
