Crate RFX15...Cheap and rippin!

The living room that usually has everything I own musically, like my amps PA etc is cleared out for a few weeks to make room for the tree. So, all I have to record with is the little Crate RFX15. But, I'm actually diggin the heck out of this little thing. I always suspected you could gig it if you had too. I was able to get some tones that I REALLY like out of this thing.
I paid $99 for it to have as just a little practice amp. Which it's great for. Anyway, check it out and see what you think.

This is a 61sec 2meg wma file. I tried to force a key change at the end. It's marginal. I think if I had went longer I could have resolved it. It won't loosen your fillings, too much. hehe

What you hear is in this pic. RG570 into Crate. Acoustic bass direct. Alesis SR-16 drum machine. Recorded on Cubase through Presonus. Chords are E9 G9 A9 C9

I dig Crate stuff. I used to use Ampeg when I was younger...I use a lot of their solid state amps and I love them. Very under rated

Just the beginning of the tune, but with my guitar with the cool rail. I forget how much I like that pup until I pick it up.

If you copy and past the links, they wont work, if you just click on them they will. I just checked them myself, they seem fine.

the CRATE sounds GREAT. its surprising the tones you can get out of a little amp like that. the roland cube 30 comes to mind as well. i have a little marshall mg15dfx that I run an mi audio tube zone into for little jams with other guitar players. i hear great things about the 10 watt tech21 amps

Would love to hear it. Post something!! I'm a fan a little amps. Right after recording this, I went to the local music store where they had a mini colossal for a long time. I was going to borrow it and bring it home and lay down a few tracks and see how that works out. But they just sold it.

I got no way to record it, but man, do I love my Mini Colossal. It can get LOUD, yet I can get true overdriven tube amp sound at low volumes. I am learning how the master volume, power sponge, and my pick attack influence the sound. It's all the amp I am going to need for a long time.

Peace

Mike

Re: Crate RFX15...Cheap and rippin!

Just uploaded this clip of me playing part of the tune. Cheap camera with camera audio. Until I can get a mov2mpeg converter then redo it and sync the vid and audio.

Check it out.

I liked the sound, it's got that shred sound from back in the day.

They didn't have good sounding amps, or even usable amps for a hundred bucks back in the day. The world has come along way. Affordable amps and guitars now days. Great to be a guitar student now.
