Dancing in the Street

In my car today I heard Dancing in the Street for the first time in a while. Does anyone know what effect that is EVH is using? Just curious. Its one of the more interesting effects Ive ever heard.

Didn't VHII pre-date EVH's experimentation with synths? I always thought the sound on that track was a combination of heavy flanging and delay.

correction....dancing in the streets is on Diver Down and not on VHII. Eddie started to experiment with synths on Women and Children first and "the cradle will rock" was his first synth based song. Diver down is 2 albums after that. I believe what he is using was a moog synth. That particular synth riff wasnt intended at all to be used on a cover song such as that one. Eddie was outvoted by the producers and record company though. He was plenty pissed from what i've read. Actually it was actions like that which caused eddie to build the 5150 studio so he could have more control. If it wasnt for that song, we might not have had the 1984 album.

additional note....it was common for eddie to loop guitar effects pedals into his synths.

I thought "And The Cradle Will Rock..." was a Rhodes run through a Marshall.

absolutely correct on that one......keyboards, synths, electric piano through a marshal......all related.

I guess that could very well be how he got that effect. With enouph delay and effects its easy to confuse the sound of a keyboard into his marshall.

Thanks.
