Delay for leads?

I recently played with a guy who had one of those digitech systems that has abunch of effects. He had one setting on it that had alot of delay and it sounded great for leads. It added alot of body to his sound. I was wondering how he did this. Or what kind of pedal I could get to get this tone. Thanks

get a GNX, doesn't matter which ones, the RP series are crap compared to them, but, most digitech pedals are not good anyways, so, get a t.c. electronics, or a GNX

I LOVE the Line 6 delay modular pedal. Freaking awesome. The big green one. Great delay pedal.

not the 4 or the 3
get a GNX 2 used somewhere. i got mine for $80 USD
the 3 and 4 don't have the capabilities that the 2 does because those are for recording

Re: Delay for leads?

I'd say most delays will do a decent job fattening up your lead sound. I recently got a Boss DD-6, and it works wonders when I add it subtly to the mix. Remember that you don't want the delayed notes to clogger up the note which you are playing right now - what you want instead is some subtle tails to the end of notes which you cannot reproduce without a delay effect.

Re: Delay for leads?

I use a DD-6 and it works well. The new Satriani time machine is supposed to be cool too, and you know he is someone that uses delay for leads a lot.

By the way, almost all Digitechs I've ever owned were awesome, so I wouldn't let some one tell you not to try something yourself. Everyone is different so try whatever you can.

Re: Delay for leads?

Thanks guys. Im not looking for a huge effects pedal. I just want a pedal that would give me that fatter sound. I might check out the time machine.

Re: Delay for leads?

I currently use a rackmount TC electronic Gmajor in the loop of my Soldano SLO due to the high loop level....it doesn't accept pedals. But back in the day, I remember getting a great delay sound from a Boss DD-5 in the loop of a Marshall JCM600 and TSL 100. I'd only use delay for leads,,,but it was a great delay pedal.

Re: Delay for leads?

If you can, then try different pedals out. The DD-6 has some extra features which are really fun to play around with (tap tempo, "warp" mode, delays ring out after delay is turned off).
However, being a digital delay, the repeats don't lose high-end gradually like an analog delay, so it doesn't have a "warm" sound - it does however sound quite clear, so that is good for searing through with your leads. There are mods which make this features possible, though!

Re: Delay for leads?

What I want is a short delay and I only want it to delay once mostly for solos and stuff. Im sure I could do alot more with one of the boss pedals but thats the reason I want one. I also will have fun doing u2 stuff.

Re: Delay for leads?

Well I ended up getting a boss dd3 delay. I hope I can get the tone I want out of it.
