digitech rp500, boss gt 10 or pod X3 live/HD 500 for petrucci sound?

as the title says
im trying to get more info and feedback about those units, because I need to buy one soon because im lacking tone and I need to carry something lighter than my amp for some situations, but I broke a finger in my left hand, so I cant really play guitar and test them now haha shame
anyway, ive been hearing some demos of them in youtube and they are all relatively good sounding, but which one of them do u think would suit me the best for the petrucci tone?(good fx and other features like USB are welcome haha)
thx in advance

The digitech is waaay better, ESPECIALLY in the hi-gain department, look at the history of my posts, at captures my search for the "perfect" multi-effects. stay waaay clear of the boss! the line6 is getting better, but the hi gain is not that great, and the variety is somewhat limited. i would only get the 1000 if you were wanting to use that "4-cable-method" thing, or if you wanted to use external fx in conjunction with it. digi ftw

A year ago I would have said digitech. I am now a changed man and would go for the pod. I have a podxt and love the jm-pre and other marshall tones that said petrucci uses boogie amps and digitech does have a better version of that at least the gnx3's was convincing. My favorite petrucci tone and your going to laugh at this one is one the rock discipline dvd ex.31 I think tough call and I cant say anything for the boss good luck

Ive had a boss gt-pro and my friend has an x3 live. I now have a gsp1101 and I love it so Id say go for digitech. The legacy amp model is my favorite even though I already have a legacy haha.

I'm currently using an RP1000 for practice, and having owned the GSP1101 I can say the RP1000 is on par and you can get great tones out of both. I run it into the power section of my VC50 mostly and had no problem dialing in Petrucci's Mark IV tone. Hit me up on PM if you want some audio samples.

Check out the sound samples at Digitech Sound Community too.

Bear in mind I haven't liked Boss or Line6 modeling so try them all if you can and decide.

I'm also a GSP 1101 owner and I think it's a fantastic unit - especially for the price.

It has 2 Mesa models in it - the '81 Mark IIC and the Dual Rectifier. I've never owned a Mesa amp but I think these amp models have the characteristics of a Mesa with what I would call a deep, dark, thick chunky sound...

I haven't tried the RP1000 cuz I have the GSP 1101 but I was curious so I just checked and the RP 1000 actually has 5 Mesa amp models in it: Mark II, Mark IV, Dual Rectifier, Triple Rectifier and .22 Caliber...

I don't want to sound mean but it's never gonna sound like the real thing. These mutli effects units are never that great (unless we're talking G systems etc). Save up and buy a 2nd hand Mesa, would be a much better use of your money if thats what your after.

If you buy it to get a variety of reasonable sounds you'll be ok but buying to replace the real thing will be a let down. I purchased a Line 6 bass unit earlier this year before my band recorded as I needed a better bass tone than my peavey amp and cab was giving. Ended up scrapping it a running the bass straight into the desk. Traded the Line6 in against a Markbass head and cab and havn't looked back since.
With guitar I went down the same bit floor effects units till i'd have enough, i've only got the Mesa F50 (as bass is my main instrument i'm not shelling out on a duel rec) and is fantastic. Saying that me and my guitarist agree the F50 has a better clean tone than the duel rec.
Again don't mean to sound like i'm having a dig but I just want you to realise what your buying.

I am using a line6 spider iv 75 atm, and I really dont have the budget to get the real thing cuz im only 15.
What I meant is if the amp models of the unit are at least similar to the real thing, not necessarily equal.
cheers

digitech amp models > other mfx pedals. I tried 'em all really carefully and kept coming back to digitech, better selection, better tone
