Re: Distortion / Overdrive pedal

My 2 main Dist/OD pedals are a Radial Tone Bone Classic and a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 Mosfet. Both are awesome.

Re: Distortion / Overdrive pedal

I know someone is going to disagree with me but, I just bought a VOX Bulldog Distortion pedal and couldn't be happier. 2 channels, tube, not death metal but almost every other distortion style old school metal and metal core included. I compared it to a few more expensive pedals and it won out. It's really good for solos IMO.

Re: Distortion / Overdrive pedal

I use boss DS-1's exclusively. However, I never use one stock off the shelf.
My mod is very simple and anyone with a soldering iron can do themselves for less than a dollar.
Find the clipping diodes in the center of the board. Rip them out and replace them with LED's. Any LED's will do. However, it seems different ones have slightly different effects. But in general, you get a warmer gain with a way more natural tone. And remember to roll the tone off in the 9-11 o'clock range. You'll find this very simple mod turns a nasally DS-1 into a warm smooth machine that few other pedals can match. And considering the price of a stock DS-1, you can afford to get boutique pedal tone for less than halve the cost of more expensive pedals that won't sound as good.

Cool, thanks for the info. Got any pics of the guts of your DS-1 to see what your talking about specifically? I've got a DS-1 laying that would be nice to actually get more use out of.
