Re: ENGL E580?
Yes, I purchased an E580 last summer but have only recently been able to really explore it's full possibilities.
My rig consists of an E580 into a Mesa 2:90 power amp and a Boss GT Pro running through the effects loop. All are controlled by a Roland FC200 foot controller. I've bypassed the GTPro volume control via the expression pedal and am using the expression pedal to control the master volume of the E580. This is great for live playing.
To answer your question, I don't notice any real delay when changing patches, for a live situation the patch change isn't noticeable or clunky.
My band plays classic rock - Derringer, Billy Idol, Bon Jovi etc and the amp is perfectly capable of replicating any of these tones and much much more. I've used it for crystal clean tones and funk tones as well as shredder stuff like Gilbert and Vai. I'd never sell it or buy another amp.
