Evo2/Breed?

Anybody use these in tandem? Or just have any experience with them in general. Dropped an Evo2 in my bridge and a Breed in the neck of an Ibanez RT 650. I really like them both, but I'm not sure I like them in the same guitar. The 650 may need Breeds all the way around.

Anyway, just looking for additional input or experience with these Pups.

Thanks!

Re: Evo2/Breed?

Big fan of the original evo, personally I dislike Breeds intensely. I'm a major fan of strong mids over anything else when playing in a live / band situation and I've found breeds seem to have removed everything good about the Evo pickup and left the rest intact. Especially in a lighter wood body guitar, such as basswood.

The Evo I find to be consitent, gainy yet smooth, good harmonics and punches just about the right place in the mix without being hard to control. The Breed I find to be very thin in the right places, provides hissy / fizzy gain rather than smoothy punchy gain and weaker harmonics.

If you want something along the lines of an Evo with awesome mids and a hefty punch get a dimarzio super 3. If you want something insane for mids, hamonics and drive, get a bareknuckle painkiller. If you want something like the evo that seems to pack a punch but along the same frequencies in the mix without being totally over the top, get a bareknuckle nailbomb.

Re: Evo2/Breed?

I used that combo for about 6 months but ended up ordering an Evo 158 to replace the Breed and that's my favourite pickup combination so far.

Re: Evo2/Breed?

In my experience Evo's and Evo2's are difficult to pair with anything. Breeds less so but when I have tried them as a combo I think they are some of the best pups that Dimarzio make.

In conclusion, if you don't like them a matched pair of either will probably work better.

Re: Evo2/Breed?

The EVO neck is the only neck pickup I have that gives true clarity on chords.
When I play lead on the EVO neck it sounds like a second bridge pickup in the guitar.
I have 20+ guitars with a variety of Different Dimarzio pickups in them. Breeds are the only ones I don't like. They sounded too muffled compared to the rest of the Dimarzio pickups I have.
