The Ping, Schaller, and Gotoh are all an "Original Floyd Rose" in terms of not being the same thing as the "licensed Floyd Rose" you see on lower-end guitars. All three are considered to be Floyd Rose tremelo units, not a copy licensed by Floyd Rose to be put on a budget model. However, they're all technically "licensed" by Floyd Rose -- that makes any sense.
If you ask Floyd Rose, they'll tell you that they stand by the quality of all three. The Ping version is very common, even the $3000+ Les Paul Axcess uses it.
Perceived quality-wise by players, however, it's just as others have said. I prefer the Schallers from Germany. AFAIK
, the Gotoh ones might be better made, but the Schallers/Pings are the ones that look like the same specs as the older ones, and I just prefer to buy the German made ones. I've never tried a Gotoh, but I've read that some manufacturers (like Suhr) are switching to those.
