What to get, what to get? Hmm, maybe the G-Force would be the next best thing to do, eh? OF COURSE IT WOULD ! Now through my mind changes and waffling, Spectrum Audio in California was totally cool, they said, "As long as it shows up like we sent it, you can get a refund." So I asked about an even exchange for the G-force, they said NP... Except they didn't have any in stock and they were minimum 2-4 weeks on back order.... Not what I feel like dealing with, but patience IS a virtue, right?

Right.

So I'm over on the gear page and a guy has a G-Major for sale dirt cheap, I mean like, "I'm being evicted and would sell my wife to you if she'd let me", cheap. I snatch it and she arrives in MINTY shape (the G-Major, not the guy's wife), with the manuals, stickers, the whole 9 yards... And God Bless those guys over there, they, about 90% of them, LOATHE rack gear, so I'm as happy in a pig in slop to take a nice unit from someone who can't STAND that rack "crap". SO the box arrives, albeit, somewhat smaller than the previous cargo container the G-system came in, but it arrives safely. I eagerly open it and inspect it, all is well.

The wife BTW, noticed the G-system as I was fiddling with it. I'd forgotten to mention that... Mind you, I still hadn't really come up with a way to account for all the $ I'd put on the Discover card on that bad boy, maybe 70% but not all of it... so she asked "whats that thing?" Thinking quickly, I told her it was a new "Chronosynclastic-infindibulum".

She wasn't having it.

So she asked again..

This time I said, ahh, just a lil guitar effects thingy I'm checking out

*cringe*

"And how much was that thing?", she asked.

"Uhh only umm...well uhh...mumble mumblehundred dollars."

She smelled weakness.

"HOW MUCH?!"

*phone rings*

Praise Jesus!

It's her Mom !

I say AMEN ! ! !

"I uh, hafta run to the store, I'll be back"
I leave in a flurry of cell phone grabbing, key snatching fervor that can only be equated to that of Jeff Gordon winning the Piston cup.

Mater: He did WHAT in his cup?!

I emerged unscathed, for now...

I have those thoughts all the time Bamm. I was thinking about getting a JSX half stack but then I figured the wife would castrate me since she bought me a JSX combo for christmas (I figured I could keep one at my buddy's house and one at mine, lol). I've also been looking to buy a GT-Pro for a great price (almost half) from a local guy but, I'm still mulling that over in my head. Having extra paychecks in the year doesn't help b/c it's tempting to spend that paycheck buying toys.

Re: G.A.S. attacks have been intense lately...

...So the discover bill arrives, and a brief inquisition ensues.
"What was $1350.00?!"
Me: Where?
"$1350.00 on the Discover bill"
Me: When? (Yeah, I know, I'm beginning to sound like Vinny Barbarino from 'Welcome Back Kotter'
Me: Oh, thaaaaat $1350.00...I demoed some gear and it was just a deposit if I kept it.
"What gear?!"
Me: That big silver thing I had here, I sent it back, it was lame.
"It was $1400.00?!?, We didn't discuss that!"
Me: Oh, I didn't think you'd mind, I sold a bunch of gear, remember? *hopefully*
*cringing*
*planning my route of escape should things go horribly awry*

Mind you, I made a $400.00 Payment before the statement even arrived to soften the blow in the balance due box. Of course the statement was printed Prior to that payment posting *gulp*

I of course informed her that I'd already made on payment toward it and would have the remainder paid off in another 2 weeks, had I kept it.
But I didn't keep it, so things were cool, right?

Hmmm....

And Since we'd have a $400.00 credit, we may as well use that to pay for the G Major, right? RIGHT ! I figured I'd leave the rest as gravy and let that sit on the balance sheets...my gift.

We have a kind of understanding at my house.
We don't use 'family' money for instruments, I can flip instruments, sell gear, work the street corners, trade gear, whatever, but 'Family' money is more or less understood to be for, well, the family. I can respect that, hell, I just made a $200.00 donation toward the family accounts by leaving the remaining $200 on the card. I'm a saint...right? *In my best Dr. Evil* Riiiiiiigghhht

Again, it seems I've emerged unscathed, and made a tithing toward the war department, we have to keep the peace, dont we?

Sites like carigslist and the bay have a myriad of effects for sale and GT-8's will usually go for less than 500 and more like 300 ish with shipping. Personally, I think you should really focus on school and playing what you have instead of acquiring more gear because there really isn't a need for it (considering you mentioned you don't even have a great amp to begin with), so why get a GT8? Like I said, if you must have one, then get a used one. You'll save a lot of money that you don't have and your dad will appreciate you looking out for his pocket.

hey man

i am looking at buying everything used from now on. but i didn't want to buy the gt8 used because effects processors tend to decline in quality over the years and i didn't want to take that chance. i wanted something i new had a warrantee on it, and it was brand new. amps tho, they always stay the same. that's why i'll look for something used or cheap.

i got the gt-8 over a new amp because i live in a house with 3 other siblings and 2 parents! i have a 15 watt amp, which is volume enough for now, and they quality is fine. it's more like a speaker than anything else. i really wanted to expand more with my playing, that's why i got the gt-8. it has so many effects and amp models, that i am really doing well with expanding. i have writtten so many more songs now. a new amp wouldn't have helped me expand too much. just a better distortion and clean channel.

the gt-8 is gonna be my last guitar purchase in a while. i have other things to spend my money on, and i'm quite content, even though my axe is only a ibanez gsa60, but i love it.

thanks for understanding! guitar is soooo cool. now i just need to buy a recording interface to show off my cool sounds! lol
thanks

Used is good, it affords you the ability to buy things that you may have to pay double for if you bought it new. The one mantra holds true on used purchases though.
Caveat Emptor.
Buyer beware!
Make sure you check things out as best you can before buying them, or make sure you have a way out should you buy a lemon. That has happened to me a couple times where things were severely understated or just outright omitted with respect to condition or functionality. That is a huge PITA to deal with after you've paid.

Re: G.A.S. attacks have been intense lately...

I could see that. Some internal cables may corrode, or oxidize causing problems. The ART SGE series has that problem because of the crappy connectors they used in the Audio Harness

Bamm, you should make this into a 'How To' guide.

As in, 'How to Feed Your Addiction and Keep a Wife'

Re: G.A.S. attacks have been intense lately...

So, things calmed down a bit and the slight transgression was allowed to pass, peace and harmony prevailed among the household occupants. But G.A.S. strikes at the most inopportune times, doesn't it?

I have a Korg Z1 synth at the rehearsal space. It's an amazing unit, makes all kinds of awesome sounds, has great lead patches, and it was something I'd bought before I was under the watchful eye of the Council for Appropriations and Expenditures. Well, it like I said, is a great synth, MOSS synthesis keyboard (Multi Oscillator Synthesis System), it oozes cool and tone, but it lacks the panache' of a well sampled instrument bank such as the Roland JV2080, which just popped up on Craig's list for a mere $260.00.
I'd had the JV880, but traded it toward the Korg, the piano samples kill on that series and they are still quite relevant and viable in the newest of Roland synths. I'd be a fool to pass it up, wouldn't I?

Of course I would!

Hmm...Problem, I don't have enough cash on hand to grab it and it'd surely be gone before I got the money from the side jobs I do, or before I sold my Jackson Dinky Reverse which is still available in the classified section *cough* *cough*

What to do, what to do?
Hey, I know! I still have that $200 credit on the Discover card. (the G.A.S. lord giveth, and he taketh away)
A quick email later, the guy accepts Paypal and is cool with me sending the $ that way and he'll bring it to me! Wow, is this my lucky day or what?

The seller arrives at my place of employment with my cherished prize in hand, it's like musician's friend, free shipping on orders over $200, isn't that great? I'm happy, all is well..isn't it?

Around that same time, my drummer expressed the need for a remote for his recording system, a pair of minty 8 track DA-38's. He isn't web enabled at home, so I offer to scrounge one up. I find 'it' on the Bay of E, of course. 50 bucks delivered! Great deal, but I'm still in the same cash related predicament, ahh, 50 bucks won't hurt and Jeff (drummer) will pay me back long before the bill arrives. Besides, we need it, we're tracking some new songs and I can punch in without having to trudge around his drum kit (the DA38's are behind the drums) we need it!

You know it's kinda funny how you develop a need for things you've gotten along without your entire life.
Oh well, better to ask forgiveness than permission, I always say...

How many people's wives are into the online bill pay thing these days?
Mine is...

"What did you buy for $260.00?! and then another thing for $50?!?"

*Who hears the Star Wars (Emperor's Theme) playing in the background? I can.*

As long as you take care of them, they will last. Look up what year the ART SGE Mach II came out... I still have mine.

Re: G.A.S. attacks have been intense lately...

So things have recently smoothed over and I've decided to create a lil "slush" fund with side job money, etc...
This will help ease tensions at home and when the G.A.S. attack strikes, I won't have to tap dance around the magically appearing musical instrument purchases.

I recently found a Roland JC120 for 300 bucks...*quiver*

I'm having a hard time deciding on which way to go, I guess I should start looking for necks and hardware for my Woods' Jem body...
I have a hankerin' for one of the ready-made necks on Chris' site.

Must...fight...urges...divorce...imminent...
