Kind of what I did, though my AxeFX lived in there for a while for the full Petrucci fanboy moments

Ha! I'm getting very tempted to put it all back together again now!

Lol!!! That cracks me up! I just got a FM3 - and I am really digging it. There are so many good free tutorials out there now, like Leon Todd's, that I have never read the manual yet. I was able to dial in a tone that sounds pretty close to my ENGL Savage 120 - and still sounds awesome, and my back thanks me! lol!

I also think you can't overlook the impact of social media on this, especially to anyone who doesn't have preconceived notions of what a guitar should should be. Micing cabs is not easy and Pete Thorn is one of the few people I've seen do it well. With something like an Axe-FX you can pretty easily produce videos like this.

Not only does it sound amazing but you can just download the preset for free. A real amp is a tough sell against that.
I’m going to borrow the phrase “preconceived notions of what a guitar should be.” It’s an interesting topic.

Modelers do offer good sounds and convenience. Modelers do not cure gear acquisition syndrome. I do not think anything is a tough sell in the guitar world because the option to have “both” exists. That is the road we tend to take.

Leon Todd's channel is great if you haven't checked it out and even if you don't own a Fractal unit. He slakes his thirst buy buying a bunch of vintage rack gear and making videos of it. As cool as modelers are, there is something to rack gear that is just so cool.

Vintage analog synths is another fun rabbit hole.

Re: Gibson acquires Mesa/Boogie

I bought my Custom Mark 5:25 with Mini Rec cab the week that this was announced. My perception is that Gibson owning Mesa will not bode well and I just can't see anything good coming out of this so I went ahead and ordered the amp that has been in my Sweetwater cart for a year.
