Got my Major back and it died again.... wtf?!?!?!?!?

I got my Major back Saturday. Fired it up, sounded amazing. Best sounding amp I have ever played through or heard.

Sunday I fire it up, had the volume on 2 and it makes a cracking noise and now I hear nothing. Damnit!

Yes it does. I hope it's something easy to fix like a short!

Re: Got my Major back and it died again.... wtf?!?!?!?!?

Okay so a fuse blew. Something caused it to spike as soon as I plugged my Jem in (I always said the Evolutions are loud!!! hehe jk!). The same fuse blew for him too but he did not have a fuse of the proper voltage when it was blowing...

I brought it back today and we tried to make it spike again but it didn't even come close.

It could be three things. It could be a little carbon buildup that eventually went away, or it could be some component is going so I just have to wait for it to go.

The third thing which is a far stretch, is my father said the outlet I plug into is bad. If you know him like I do, he may be just saying that, but the wiring here is old and may spike - there is an outlet in my sister's old room that has exploded a few light bulbs.

It does sound damn good though! My ears however are kicking my ass for getting the thing fixed....

your father may very well be right, I would invest in a voltage regulator/power conditioner, its a must in my rig

Re: Got my Major back and it died again.... wtf?!?!?!?!?

^^ I asked him why and he just said the outlet is screwed into the wall funny, but it does not have a history of spiking. I always use the same outlet for all of my amps, but the Major is extremely high voltage, much higher than any of the other ones I have. I could try a Peavey Classic 30 on it to find out, as those also have a history of burning up tube sockets fairly regularly.

Anyway I've been playing through it more. It sounds amazing. It has the warmest clean tone I have ever heard, and I put all RFT tubes in the preamp and they are great sounding tubes with a bit of gain to them. Definitely the way to go - sound of an old Mullard at a fraction of the price!

I think the power drawn by the Major constitutes as a surge alone :P
