They still have big store problems like out of tune guitars and poor setups, But really you will find that anywhere they that kind of inventory. I tend to shop GC for the used items. You can find some great stuff and sometimes stuff that would never be seen in your area because gc ships used stuff around the chain. But anyway if you live with in driving distance of plymouth meeting you should all check it out. Even though GC is evil.
that's the reason I go to GC is for the used gear. You can haggle with them alot. I actually grabbed an Aria Hollowbody with a bigsby from the Plymouth meeting store. it was listed for sale for 3 something and I got it for 200 bucks with a set of strings..

Re: Guitar Center - your opinion?

I could go on and on but I have 3 within about an hour of each other and all of them are junk. The one good thing I will say about them is that their sales staff is so hungry for a sale of any kind that you can usually get a good deal on used gear because they just dont know what theyre looking at. I picked up an ESP KH-4 and a KH-2 for 800.00 in the same store (thats 400 a pop) because the rep didnt think theyd sell.
You need to befriend a rep as well. There's one I do go to because my friend that works there doesnt really need the money and he justs works for the discount he gets so I get treated fairly well. Unfortunately you will need to set up anything that comes out of there.

Yeah, that is the trick is to have friends there. The mom and pop shop I go to they are always slipping me free strings and picks all the time. They hardly make any money off of me at all. All I have to do is look at a guitar, and the price starts declining.

Re: Guitar Center - your opinion?

The GC in North NJ & NYC suck. The gear is battered and the sales help, aside from one girl in the route 46 store, is more aggravating then helpful AND it takes forever to checked out. I go there when I have to and it looks like it's time again since I'm considering a new amp head.

I would check out a guitar in the store and order it from the .com simply for the fact that it wasn't hanging around for all to touch. I like the 3 months no interest deal on the card and that keeps me going back.

Re: Guitar Center - your opinion?

GC is ok for run of the mill average everyday stuff but I generally go to a smaller store that carries specialized gear. Try and buy a Soldano Hot Mod at GC and those guys will look at you like "WTF".

Re: Guitar Center - your opinion?

I goto the GC on Westheimer in Houston mainly, but we have 2 in town. The sales people really dont know much about anything, but i guess this is where your research comes in handy.

You can get some good deals, and this location has used trade in equipment as well since I mostly dig the older stuff.
