From the guitar to the computer?

Hello, I an a complete newb when it comes to recording, but I have jerked around with fruitty loops, acid pro, soundforge and such. I would like to record my own guitar tracks but I have no clue of the equippement i need. This is not for professional recording but for fun mostly.
My guitar is not midi ready, so I thought about getting a nice rack effect like an intellifex wich has a midi output (or is it an input?) in the back and use it with one of those usb/midi cord. Would that do that I need? Or is there some other sound card or whatever with a normal 1/4" jack input?

Anyways, ill be waiting for your suggestions and comments.

Thanks
Seb

If u just wanna have some fun to get guitar on tape, buy
a Boss 4 track, and a good mic

Just line-out your pc into the 4 track.

If you go the PC route you should just start by upgrading the whole PC
cause you'll keep wanting more after you get started
plus think about HD crashes and loss of filez

Good Luck on your decision dude - just my two pennies here

1-You'll definately need another HD to store your audio files
2-Consider the M-Audio Delta 4X4 Series
3-Consider upgrading your computer (300MB processors may no longer be the minimum...)

Talk to the good folks at ItalMelodie!

If you have a soundblaster card - with input

try a mini to 1/4" adapter - straight in - then cakewalk to record...
