Guitar hangers

So yeah. Suddenly I have 20 guitars. LOL

Does anyone know where I could score some of the slatboard and hangers that they have in guitar stores? I've seen a few pics from some guys on here who apparently have a similar predicament, so I thought I'd ask.

I'm really not wanting to spend $200 ($10/ea) on those lousy individual hangers from Guitar Center. I want something a little more..."professional" looking and I *definitely* want to keep them off the floor and out of their cases.

Ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Re: Guitar hangers

I actually prefer the look of individual wall hangers. The slat wall always looks like a cheap display at a crappy pawn shop.

Re: Guitar hangers

I agree. I'm sure you could call String Swing and see if they can work a discount for you if you buy 20 hangers from them. The only thing I do is use these instead of the screws that come with the hanger:

Re: Guitar hangers

I ended up getting a bunch of Hercules guitar hangers. These are the ones that close shut with the weight of the guitar resting on the hanger. They look great with the wooden base that mounts on the wall. Being that I bought a bulk load of them (I think 10 or more), they ended up costing about $8-10 each from GC, regularly $18-$20.00. The dude behind the counter asked a manger, but they accepted my offer.

Re: Guitar hangers

I use the K & M guitar wall hangers, recommended to me at my local store. Was wanting the locking ones, was advised they were more hinderence than help. The K & Ms are great though. Check out the review section of Jemsite for my review.

Re: Guitar hangers

You can order the slatwall hangers directly from the String Swing web site. That's what I have been using. They have a number of varieties of adjustable hangers that are good for increasing "packing density" in a limited space.

Re: Guitar hangers

If you need to hang up multiple guitars, you can use a board made of matching wood and secure it to the studs in wall then attach the String Swings to that. It ends up looking nice and the weight of the guitars is well supported. Mollies work OK but I don't trust them as much as securing the String Swing directly to a stud.

Re: Guitar hangers

If you use the hangers with the black foam pads, watch out, and never ever leave you guitars hanging on them(especially a Gibson Les Paul or SG) because they will mar the finish, and if the room gets hot, they will melt the foam into the finish and mess it up. Same for the rubber padding as well. It will take the finish off a guitars neck in no time. I would never hang my guitars up now, nor leave them on a stand for any length of time. I know from experience. I messed up a Les Paul doing that.

Not all hanger foam is the same. Some cause problems and some don't. Most all of them come with obvious warning stickers on them about not using them with nitro lacquer finishes for that reason. My guitars have been hanging on them for years and there is not even a hint of any degradation to the foam. There are also covers that you can use if you need to use the hangers with nitro-finished guitars.
