Help with pod/studio monitor project

Hi everyone,

I have a line 6 pod (don't laugh) that I run stereo through two 15w practice amps. Even with the amps zeroed out (flat eq) it sounds like crap compared to using the pod with headphones. I can't afford a Mesa dual rec, which is what I want, but I was considering a small power amp and some studio reference monitor speakers as an alternative. This only used in my home and not for gigging. Would anybody have any recommendations for a setup like this. My two amps are a Peavey Rage 158 and a Crate G15XL and they don't sound good alone on a good day. Thanks in advance!

Buy a Marshall micro amp
The "lead 15" or "Lead 12", you can find them on
the net for around 200 bucks. Check the usual spots on the
net

Ryan,

I'm sure you probably remembered to do this, but did you turn the A.I.R. mode switch to "Amp" instead of direct? What about turning off the cabinet emulation? Not sure that that will make a Peavey or Crate sound "better"... but it might help a tiny bit.

Also, what is your goal? Do you just want to hear better tone in your practice room... or are you trying to record what is coming out of your amps with a mic?

Let me know and maybe I can give you a couple of pointers,
Jeff

Jeff and OME,
I do utilize the a.i.r./amp switch and it just doesn't sound good through the amps. My goal is to have better soud in my practice room. I use cubaseSX for recording through my pc and I have a lot of plugins for that. I figured that if I got a set of monitors and a power amp, that I could use them to do double duty. I'm really happy with the pod for my immediate purposes (it doesn't annoy my wife like a 4x12 and a 100w amp ) and would like to get the most out of what I have right now. Even if I had a Mesa, I would still utilize the pod because I think it's a worthwhile device. I just want to not have to use headphones all the time. I'm going to check out those Marshalls, too. Thanks for your advice, guys!
