High Gain Amp

ok, im at a point of desperacy here as i REALLY need an amp. ok, so. what im playing and the sound im going for:

rg1527 (stock pickups) & rg570 (X2N/EVO)
i need something that can handle the 7 string (needs to have MASSIVE low end) but can get some serious screaming highs at the same time (for my punk band and when i use the 570).

i guess i could save up to about $800 MAX. im not made of money and that alone will take a while. the bugera's really arent doing it for me (i want something that will last longer than a year) and i 100% despise line 6. i dont think a marshall could do what i want either. please help me?

i went through the amp guide thread and it didnt really help me out much

thanks guys.

Re: High Gain Amp

i was considering a V3 quite some time ago but i saw one dude get close to the low end that im looking for and everyone pretty much said "congrats on getting a good tone from a V3!!!"

but it will work great for the higher end stuff that im doing

Blackstar HT-5R, head with the 1x12 cab or combo. They should get you where you want. I jam with my four piece band with one too.

Re: High Gain Amp

i dont see 5 watts being enough though. i think thats why i dont trust blackstar very much. because im gigging so i need to be loud and i dont know if 5 watts will do it. ive played the amp and it sounds great though, i just dont know

Re: High Gain Amp

Works for me with my band. If you are concerned get the HT-20.

Re: High Gain Amp

i was considering the HT Stage 100. any thoughts? and im still not fully understanding the difference between valve and tube (apart from the obvious tube amps have power tubes and valve amps dont). sorry for being so ignorant on the subject but i focused my learning on guitar rather than amps :/

but everyone keeps comparing it to a JCM which i have no interest in whatsoever. is this just a cheap JCM with medium distortion or is this an all-powerful machine that can go from eric clapton to mick thompson with the push of a button?

Re: High Gain Amp

Might not be everyones suggestion, but there is a lot of hype over the bugera amps. I myself are planning to get one in the up coming months. I do also see a lot of used marshals on ebay for well under 800.

Re: High Gain Amp

From my very little knowledge of amps. Power tubes can be good if you want power tube distortion aka the sound that people look for in tube amps. Only way to achieve full power tube distortion is if you crank the master volume to the max. With the Ht-5 because of its low wattage you can achieve the maximum power tube distortion by maxing out the master. 5watts for a tube amp is pretty loud and can easily do small gigs if you mic it.

i was thinking about them but i just hear too many people talking about how theirs died in a year so thatswhy im looking into other options.

and Mozi, maybe ill take your advise and give a full test of that amp. ill bring in my 1527 and ask the dude at guitar center if i can really crank it and we'll see how it goes.

There IS no difference between valve and tube! A valve IS a tube... a vacuum tube.

My vote, Like Ayrton suggested is a 5150 or 6505 but in truth the only way to see if an amp works for you is to take your guitar to the store and try out amps in your price range preferably wound up to near band practice levels. Also don't rule out a different amp than you first thought. Also think about boosting it with a tubescreamer or similar. Many of the top guys rely on pedals to boost a valve amp to get "their" tone.

Re: High Gain Amp

What about Carvin V3M or EVH 5150 III Micro, 50watt, small size and light enough for gigging musicians

* BTW i think V3M is out of stock almost everywhere & EVH 5150 III Micro is yet to reach stores

Re: High Gain Amp

I'm going to 3rd the used 5150/6505. The combo will likely be more than loud enough for you. My 5150 2x12 combo keeps up with drums at volume 4.

It handles the low end from my 7 (RG7620 with Bareknuckle Pickups) and is more than ready to scream when I start slowing on my S540 equipped with an X2N in the bridge.

Of course pretty much every amp is ready to scream when you've got an X2N in the bridge. Ha.
