I thought I'd share some thoughts!

I started working at a guitar store about a month ago and alot has happend to my opinions on gear and what not. For example, I realized that I really am pretty happy with me Ibanez guitars. My Universe especially (when it works lol). I have no desire to buy every guitar on the wall because I know that my guitar suits me well and it does what I need it too.
Your probably asking why I am sharing this. Well it seems that my view is rare. My coworkers always seem to want something else or don't really know what they have. For example, this one guy has a "USA S series guitar with a Custom Made inlay." He said he paid $1200 used for it. I felt so bad for him when I heard that. Unless a guitar like that exsists, I think he got ripped off. And everyone there seems to want new and different gear. NOT that we all don't, but it just seems like I would spend my money differently if I were them.
Another thing that I have noticed is what guitarist think is good usually coinsides with the price tag. I payed less than $1000 for my Universe and I will gladly put it up against guitars costing twice or three times that. I'm not saying everyone should play a Universe but just because there is a large price and big reputation, doesn't mean it's the best. And I also learned not to critize "the best" because that has drastic consequences.
Anyways the purpose of all this was to say that I have found what I am happy with and feel good about not being so caught up in buyingguitars anymore. Who knew that I would find that by working at a guitar store. God has a weird sense of humor!

Hopefully soon I'll reach the point where I'm happy. Getting close. I've mostly been playing my Brian Moore and my RG7 for the better part of two years now. I've bought a few and sold a few here and there within the last couple of years but I always come back to those two.

Well, maybe just one more...

well there are some things i am going to get(recording stuff, better effects unit, another cab... )and there are things i lust over that i wont realisticly(sp?) be able to buy.
But i hope to try out as wide a range of stuff as i can to try and find something that just fits me perfectly, at the moment that is a USA Peavey Wolfgang(one expensive thing i am going to buy).
I think i will always lust over different gear, but i have the willpower to buy only what i need, which is something not everyone can say

yea, same here. I don't think I'll own any Mesa/Boogie stuff in any time over the next 10 years cos its really expensive whereas the Laney valve amps are cheap and really good (hopefully GH50 coming my way).
And despite the fact that my 2nd guitar cost 180 (yamaha Ibanez rip-off) i actually really like the way it plays so it will be a keeper for quite a while. Only a few guitars have compared to it so far (an ESP M Series I played was amazing and a few fenders have played real nice too)

Although, id love to rent some Dual Rectifiers with 4 4x12s to wake up my parents one day....
