Imac and POD XT

Hey guys, I am thinking about ditching my PC for recording and buying an Apple Imac 3.2 desktop.

My question is: Will I need an interface (like apogee) if I am running a POD XT Pro? Can't I just use the USB in? Will I have latency issues?

An interface would be preferred, that way you do away with the latency issue to a great extent. Although you're going to venture into the Mac route, you don't necessarily have to get an Apogee interface unless you're really set in spending the money and opting for the brand all together.

Most interfaces will work with a Mac and allow you to record your POD XT Pro yielding decent results. Depending on your budget, you could go from a Firestudio Mobile (2 channel) to a MOTU Interface, Firestudio, Eleven rack, etc.

I hope this helps.

Yeah, that helps a ton. Right now I have no latency issues with the USB/MIDI connection using a Maudio 24/96 Delta sound card but I do feel I lose some sound quality. I dont care about name brands as long as the quality is there.

Definitely cant wait until I get the Apple though, I am getting really tired of the PC issues.

Hey jeff, I use a Mac and record with logic 9 I have an Alesis multimix 12 firewire desk I pickup secondhand on ebay for around 175.00 GBP. I can record using all 12 channels at once ........ comes in handy if you want to record your band in your living room LOL . I have no issues with latency at all but as I say I am using the firewire connection.
I would recomend logic 9 express for your mac, you can pick this up for around 80GBP on ebay. I was originally using my macbook but I have just purchased an iMac they are a superb machine.
Good luck with it

I also look forward to you getting your mac. I have been a pc-user since the early 90's and switched to all mac 2 years ago...shoulda done it sooner. My core 2 duo little mac mini with 4 gigs ram runs pro tools on dual screens and has NEVER hiccupped once and I run many tracks with many plugins. I have never had any errors, unlike with pc. I'm also recording straight to the mac's external drive!

what you can also try, which sounds awesome with no latency, is recording via spdif! i don't think pod xt has this though. i record this way with my line6 pod pro rack...circa 2001 unit
